According to psychologists, human mind has a tendency to see faces or shapes in the most common of the objects. And by sheer coincidence, this floating ice did exactly the same. I could see the fin of a dolphin, the mouth of a lion and so on.
Photo setup
- This photo actually came as an accident shot when I was trying to capture the image shown in ‘Juice glass shadow‘ post
- As part of the original setup I had ice floating in ice cold water ( ice melts much faster in normal warm water) which was in a glass tumbler ( the same glass tumbler used in ‘Juice glass shadow‘ post, although the ice had melted when I was taking the photos for that post)
- I took some side shots and tried different angles but I was not getting what I wanted
- Kept the glass on the table and adjusted the tripod to make the camera directly above the ice with the camera facing down on the ice
- Reverse mounted the lens ( for macro photography ) to get a full frame view of the ice
- And here comes the most interesting part – Lighting. I used a table lamp that had 31 round LED lights that illuminated the light in the way show in the picture
- The LED lights were casting beautiful patterns on the ice
- I moved the ice a bit around the water to get some nice shapes
- Finally, a few adjustment using the table lamp as well as with the right aperture( manual control ) and focus, I got what I want
